Winter Break in a Town You Have (probably) Never Heard of

Alesund is a small coastal town in the western coast of Norway surrounded by stunning scenery.  Alesund has a rather wet and mild (for Norway) coastal climate. It does not really have a stable winter climate with constant snow, but can periodically have a lot of wind and precipitation in the form of either rain or snow.

Alesund is not a tourist city nor a winter holiday destination, so in winter there is hardly any people on the street.  A lot of tourist services and shops were closed down in winter and some roads were closed, some natural attractions inaccessible. But that is the same all over Norway.  You can certainly drive around the surrounding if conditions allow, expect it will be grey, wet, chilly and windy.  We picked Alesund because of its convenient location for visiting the fjord areas further inland, like the well known Geiranger fjord.
